Animal Rescue

On January 5th, the Mocksville Fire Department along with the Davie County Rescue Squad, Davie County Fire Marshal’s Offiice, and Davie EMS were called out to Buck Seaford Rd to assist Davie County Animal Services with a horse stuck in a frozen pond. When personnel arrived the horse was found a few feet off of the bank, but its lower legs were stuck under the ice. Members of the Davie County Rescue Squad and the Davie County Fire Marshal’s Office were able to don dry suits and enter the water to free the horse’s leg. Members of the Mocksville Fire Department rigged a mechanical advantage system to help pull the horse up the bank. Once the leg was free the horse was pulled to shore where it was able to walk out on its own. The animal was then treated by a veterinarian on scene.
