The season is changing and the temperatures are dropping. Here at the Mocksville Fire Department we want everyone to be safe this winter while heating your home, because half of all home fires occur in the months of December, January, and February. Here are a few tips to improve fire safety. You should keep any flammable materials away from heating devices such as the furnace, wood stove, or fireplace. Your oven should never be used to heat your phone. Once a year have a qualified professional inspect and clean your heating devices. Also, make sure you have CO alarms installed in your home. A malfunctioning gas heater can produce CO which can cause health issues, and create a dangerous environment. If your CO alarms begin to alarm exit your home immediately and call 911, because CO is an odorless, colorless, and tasteless gas that cannot be detected without a meter or alarm. The Mocksville Fire Department wants everyone to be safe this winter and hopefully these tips will help increase your safety.
